The issue that I'm discussing is Human trafficking. For those who don't know what that is it's the trafficking in persons at the recruitment, transportation, transfer, harboring or receipt of persons, by means of threat or use of force or other forms of coercion,of the abduction, of fraud, of deception, of the abuse of power or of a position of vulnerability, or of the giving or receiving of payment or benefits to achieve the consent of a person having control over another person for the purposes of exploitation. This is another form of slavery that happens all around the world including the United States. Some say that the first acts of human trafficking was the slave trade of African Americans. If this is the case then human trafficking has been a problem since the early 1700's. This problem was fueled by peoples greed and hunger for money and power. The people who are being trafficked were tricked and forced into it. some may think of the people involved to just be forced into prostitution but it also includes other forms of sexual exploitation, forced labor, slavery or servitude.
This issue violates the Universal Declaration Of Human Rights because the practice of human trafficking is just a fancy way of saying slavery. This issue violates article 4 of the UDHR because it states that no person shall be held in slavery. Although we all know that this article is being broken there are few people speaking out. Some people started to use the term "white slavery" after they began the trafficking of white women or children. "White slavery" means the obtaining a white woman/girl by the use of force, drugs, or dishonesty-for sex which is unwanted by the woman/girl. This was also terrible dispite the color of your skin or race it's still wrong. Some 2.4 million people are being traded at any time. I dont know about you but that is terrifying to think about.
Although you may not hear much about the issue of human trafficking there are some people and organizations that are trying to fight this issue. These are but not limited to Juliana Dogbadzi, a group called Notforsale, UNODC, CNN's freedom project,The A21 campaign, and also Courtney's house. These are a few people and organizations that are reaching out to try to end human trafficking. It's hard for them to fight this issue because little people have the chance to tell their experiences. Only 1 out of 100 people have been rescued. There is also very little protocol for officers on the topic also. Only 10% of police stations have any protocol to deal with human trafficking. For the percentage to be this low it's terrifying that they don’t take this serious. Human trafficking is going on all around the world and is a morally corrupt practice. The people that run these institutions are getting rich of the exploitation an kidnapping of women and children. the people who are in charge of these institutions make about $32 billion a year. Human trafficking is a terrible and immoral practice and must be stopped but they need your voice.
